HOW CANON IS THE SITE?
Um, as canon as you would like us to be? I kid. Sort of. We are an AU site, so canon is, for the most part, a nice suggestion. We still adhere to the normal rules of the Potterverse, however. You cannot bring someone back from the dead, you cannot make food out of nothing, all that jazz. But as for fates/relationships/all that it is mostly up to you. Common sense is nice, though. If you have any questions about our "site canon" just ask! Or check the "Extra Information" section.
ARE THEIR ANY RESTRICTIONS/BANS?
We try our best to keep ratios fairly even. It has been over a year since Infinite Arms opened, and so far we have never had to put any character bans in place! That being said, if there are any bans needed in the future, they will be clearly labeled and announced.
CAN I MAKE AN ORIGINAL PUREBLOOD FAMILY?
In order to keep ratios realistic, only families that are canonically pure (either stated in the Harry Potter books or on the HP wiki) will be listed as purebloods. There are many pure surnames that are not currently in use, so if you want to make a pureblood there are options! Alternatively, we allow families that are technically halfblood to claim/pretend that they are pure. Usually, this would stem from some tainted blood rather far back in the lineage. If you have any questions about making a pureblood, let us know and we can offer suggestions!
CAN I MAKE A FOREIGNER?
We do accept characters from different backgrounds, however, there are some conditions. Only children who are born on UK soil have their names recorded and receive letters from Hogwarts. Children born in other countries would attend their respective magical schools. It is possible that a character is born in the UK and moves during their childhood, in which case they would still receive a Hogwarts acceptance letter. Unfortunately, Hogwarts does not accept transfer students, so anyone wishing to attend/have attended the school would have to be there for the duration of their magical education.
CAN I PLAY A VEELA/WEREWOLF/VAMPIRE?
Yes! If you would like to apply for a character of a different race, please read the corresponding post in the “Extra Information” forum. All the information regarding our sites canon on these races will be written there. The staff does reserve the right to be a bit more strict on applications of that nature since they are a rarity in the wizarding world.
CAN MY CHARACTER HAVE AN ABILITY?
This is also yes. We accept Animagi, Occlumens, Legilimens, Seers and Metamorphmagi. Like the Werewolves, Veela, and Vampires, we will be a tad stricter on these applications. Aside from Seers and Metamorphmagi, these abilities are rather advanced magic, so there won’t be scads of people running around with these sort of abilities. As for natural-born abilities like Metamorphs and Seers, we would expect to see at least some discussion of how these abilities has affected the character's life and so on.
CAN I PLAY A STUDENT?
We have mostly phased out students and we are encouraging people to make their characters at least 17 years old (able to use magic outside of school) and preferably 18+. With the closure of Hogwarts, the plotting ability of younger characters is limited. Our board is rated mature, however, and characters under 18 will not be permitted in sexual situations.
You may NPC children as attached to adult characters.
OTHER MISC. SITE INFO
There are a few things that have been cropping up frequently in applications that we wanted to add to our FAQ, these are usually just small things, so having to pend for them is a bore. Making sure everyone is on the same page will lead to much faster acceptances!
- The only way to travel between countries safely is by Portkey or flying. Apparation between countries is deemed unsafe by the Ministry as it leads to a significant increase in splinching accidents/deaths
- Children do not have their own wands before the age of 11, even if they are raised in the magical world
- Muggleborn children have their letters delivered in-person by a Hogwarts representative instead of by owl
- Children often have little control over their magical abilities when they first manifest. However, their magic is also not yet strong enough or developed enough to produce extreme results (by this we mean killing/maiming someone else, or other large-scale events).
